Card for Joan's Gardens #17 Weekly Challenge

My brother's birthday is this month, so I wanted to get his card made before I run out of time to send it.
As I told you before, I love mixing patterns and you can easily do so as long as you keep the scale different.
So, here I have used a plaid, stripe and polka dot together, all color coordinated.
A new product was used on the leaf, called Judkins DG3 Art Gel.  It is great even though it does take
time to dry.  It doesn't bubble and is very smooth.

Today's clue:  A special blend of ink is used, one we will never know.   It is overprinted with symbols and then it is starched to make it water resistant and pressed to give it that nice crisp look.

Please leave a comment telling me what the clue is referring to!

Family Favorite - Hungarian Goulash

Saturday, September 25, 2010
This dish is one of my families favoite meals.  And, a meal it is.  When my Mom's Mother died some 70+ years ago, one of their Hungarian neighbors prepared this dish for them.  We absolutely love it and everything in it is fresh from the garden.

Veggies all chopped up

After flour and cornmeal has been added

Goulash is ready to eat...ymmmmmm

Hungarian Goulash
5 cups green tomato, chopped
8+ cups red tomato , chopped (needs to be very juicy)
5 cups green pepper, chopped
5 cups onions, chopped
5 cups potato, chopped
1/3 cup sugar
2 teaspoons pepper
1 1/2 tablespoons salt
1/2 cup flour
1 cup corn meal

1. Mix all of the above ingredients together. Have a iron skillet or teflon skillet (won't brown as nice) very

hot. Melt about 1/2 cup lard or part butter.
2. Fry on medium heat turning consistently so it doesn't burn. Best if it browns some.
3. Cool about 1/2 hour before eating.

This is time consuming, but so worth it.  Over the years, I  have worked and worked to get mine as good as Moms.   Last week I accomplished it as it turned out just perfect.  This is soooo good!!!

Mom

Wednesday, September 22, 2010
We are heartsick.  Mom's tumor has returned and is growing fairly rapidly.  We met with the surgeon on Monday and yesterday with the radiologist.  We are so torn at what to do.  The kind of cancer she has does not respond very well to radiation and not at all to chemo.

Because the tumor is right next to her spinal cord, there are many risks. If she doesn't have the radiation she could soon be paralyzed and then I couldn't take care of her. She would have extreme pain again too.   If she does have it, there are the possibilities of many side effects.  We are praying for wisdom and are asking for prayers that we  make the right decision and have peace about it.

Card for Joan's Gardens #15 Weekly Challenge

Thursday, September 16, 2010
Fall cards are beautiful with their deep rich colors.  It was so good to get to finally sit down and be creative on a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon.  Making cards to me is like decorating a room.  The more patterns you add the better it looks.  Please note there are flowers, polka dots and stripes on this card.  The cream color Neenah paper was antiqued using Tim Holtz Tea Dye Distressed Ink.  Boy, that is great stuff!!!  And, by using his Inking Tool, the job is so easy.

Distressed inks, colored pencils with Gamsol were used to color the leaves.  After those dried, Copper Perfect Pearls were applied over the top and spritzed using the Mini Mister and water.  I have forgotten about the Perfect Pearls until I took Tim's class and he uses it a lot.  So, I pulled them out of my drawer and loved the finish touch it gave to the leaves.  I don't have the Perfect Peals in my store yet, but if anyone wants them I will be glad to order some for you.  They come in lots of colors.

I wanted to add something hanging from a stick pen and I was thrilled to try out the
Art Glitter Clear Adhesive.  It says it will dry clear and by golly, it sure does.  I wanted the
beads to stay in place, so I applied a couple of drops of glue on the hangers on the beads and sure enough....it dried completely clear.  I can see lots of uses for this glue.

I wanted to show you a close up of the metal corners by Tim Holtz.  Aren't they beautiful and they just seemed to bring the card together when I added them. Even though you flatten them in the back, I added a  drop of the Art Glitter Glue to make sure they would stay on.

The addition of the dark blue pearls gave the card the pizzazz I was looking for when I finished the card.

I love this pleated ribbon by Making Memories.  A few stiches were tore out on each end so that it could be wrapped  underneath the card and it wouldn't be bulky.
