Workshop Projects

Tuesday, August 31, 2010
The first project we did for the August Workshop was to create a Luminary using JustRite Stamps.
I showed the gals that they could purchase a Febreze Flameless Luminary Starter Kit from Walmart and used the base for their project.  They were given a LED light to use in case they didn't want to purchase the Febreze kit.
The Spellbinders Dahlia Nestie cut out the DP.  The JustRite Images were stamped with Black Memento Ink on the outside of the vellum and then Super Fine Ranger Embossing powder was applied to the ink and embossed.  Next the image was colored on the opposite side using markers.   As the light shines through it looks like stained glass.  Martha Stewart's Modern Garland Punch was used to finish off the top.  Selma helped me design this project and everyone loved it.
I wish it showed up better, but hopefully you get the picture

Next I showed everyone how to do some of the Tim Holtz distressing techniques using Grunge Paper, Distressed Inks.  It was so much fun seeing how everyone's turned out so different and they were all just beautiful.

The last project we did was to create this card using Cuttlebug's new Perfect Perennials  Embossing Folder, Martha Stewart's Quilt Punch and the Square Nesties by Spellbinders.  The Stamp is from HeartFelt Creation and stamped on the green piece that was left from the cut out window.

I had everyone bring their favorite card they had made and put them on display around the room.  Each card was numbered and later in the day they voted on their two favorite cards.   .It was a very hard decision as so many were absolutely stunning.  I failed to get a picture of the winning cards, but hopefully someone else did and I can post them later.  That was really fun!!!

Gretchen's card was #1 and Maggie's card was #2. Gretchen was given a HeartFelt Creation die and Maggie received a Heartfelt Creation Stamp.  We will certainly do that again!!!
It was a great day and I think everyone enjoyed the projects!!!

August Workshop

Sunday, August 29, 2010
Yesterday was our August Workshop.  It was an absolutely a gorgeous day outside and inside as well.
Sixteen ladies and two men attended the workshop.  The men ate the food, and teased the gals, but
we just couldn't get them to stamp.  Of course, Jon was in on that as well.

As I mentioned before Darlene, came early and helped me get ready.  What a blessing she was to me!!!
Cathy and Brad arrived from Wisconsin Friday evening and helped us finalize thing Saturday morning. Everyone pitched in and made things so much easier on Jon and I.

Both Darlene and Barb Schram did demos showing the gals great ideas on making some gifts.
Darlene showed how to make an adorable box that holds cards and envelopes.  Barb made white chocolate
covered popcorn and then showed us different ideas on packaging.  Both were awesome and the popcorn was yummy.,

Next, I showed ideas using some of the new things I learned to do at CHA.  I gave tips using the Grunge paper, show how to use the Distress Inks, Martha Stewart Edger punch and The Heartfelt Creation Dies.

Then gals started on the three projects we had ready for them.  Everyone seemed to enjoy the day.
Lunch was wonderful as usual!  Great cooks in this group of ladies.
Lots of free stamps were given away to lucky winners, compliments of Heartfelt Creations and JustRite.

I will be adding pictures of the projects  later as the guys are working on some electrical stuff and will be shutting off our electricity.

Bottom row - Colleen, Penny, Gretchen, Etta, and Cheryl
Middle Row- Kelly, Joan (me) Jo, Stephanie, Darlene, Maggie
Back Row- Diane, Cathy, Barb, Vickie, JoAnn

Mom came out in the afternoon to spend some time with the girls.

They have arrived! Recipe too!

Heartfelt Creations and Spellbinders preorder items have arrived and will start shipping next week.  I will start packaging them and get them out to you as fast as I can.  If there is anything else you need, please let me know right away so I can add it to your order.

This weekend is the workshop and the gals start arriving today for it.  Darlene Pavlick arrived on Wednesday and I don't think I would have made it without her.  Selma created this weeks Challenge card and helped me with one of the projects we are doing. What a blessing they have been to me.

Yesterday Darlene stocked the store with all the new items and rearranged everything. What a tropper! I can't wait for the gals to see it.  Today is tear down my craft room and get the tables all set up. Tonight we go out to eat with the gals that have arrived from out of town.

Mom has been a busy beaver too.  Wednesday, she made pie crust (her specialty) and peeled peaches for a Peach Custard pie.  Yesterday, she peeled apples for a pie.  It is so nice she can help out this way and it gives her something to do to make her feel needed.  And, the pies were yummy.

I thought you might enjoy seeing a picture and recipe of the Peach Custard Pie.  Many years ago, my Mother-in-Law made this pie for picnics out on their pontoon boat and I love it, but had never asked for the recipe or made it.  The other day I got to thinking about it and wondered if perhaps she had the recipe in the church cookbook.  Sure enough, there it was so I tried it and it was just as good as I remembered and one of the easiest pies I have ever made.

Peach Custard Pie
1 unbaked pie shell
 1 cup sugar
2 Tbsp. flour
2 Tbsp soft butter
Mix together.  Put half in the bottom of the pie shell
Slice peaches and lay in crumb mixture to fill the pie shell
2 eggs beaten (3 of small eggs)
Pour on top of peaches and spring remaining sugar mixture on top of the peaches.
Bake at 400 degrees until set like custard (about 45 minutes for my oven)

Another tip I learned from the Food Channel was to put a cookie sheet under the pie as it bakes and the bottom of your pie crust gets done and browns so nicely.  It works too!

Let me know if you tried this great recipe and how you like it!  Enjoy!

You can click here to play Joan's Gardens #11 challenge!

This such a happy day for me.  Look at my Mom!  She is out in my craft room working on a quilt.
Doesn't she look great?  Jon ,Phillip (son-in-law) and Todd (my grandson in law) built her a ramp last weekend.  Now she can get in and out of the house by herself using her motorized chair.  What a blessing!

Lily (my Great-Granddaughter)
This is Lily's first horse show to ride her horse.  She is 8 and so adorable.  She was thrilled to death to win 2 ribbons for 2nd and 3rd place. We are so proud of her.

Tag using Grunge Paper

Thursday, August 19, 2010
My First Grunge paper Tag
I have a new love and it is working with Tim Holtz Distressed Inks and his Grunge Paper.
This tag was cut using my Cricut from a manilla folder because I didn't have any Tags.  I have them on order, but they won't be in until sometime in September.
I had the priviledge of taking a class from Tim Holtz at CHA last month and I learned so many new techniques.  I will be carrying some of his products as soon as they are availble.  If there is anything
in particular that you would like for me to order for you, just let me know.

Don't you love learning about new things and techniques?  I sure do!  I saw this
Grunge paper at CHA and knew it was something I wanted to try.  So what makes this different from Chipboard?  Tim designed this product so that it was flexible and it doesn't tear or crack.  You can ink it, sand it, roll it and do just about anything to it and it remains the same.  Grunge paper is sold in 12x12  and 6x12 sheets. You will love this stuff!!!!  If you want me to order some for you, please
e-mail me.

First I cut out the tag, then I stamped the Distress Ink pad on my Craft Mat (this is a must have to do this procedure as nothing sticks to it ) and sprayed it with my Mini Mister.  I used my heat gun to dry it and
sprayed it with Ranger's new Perfect Pearls Spray (awesome stuff, available in October)

Next I cut out the 2 sizes of flowers from the Grunge Paper, ran them through the Cuttlebug using the Swiss dot Embossing Folder.
Next I inked it using the Distress Inks and sanded the dots to make them stand out.  I cut out the stem and leaf and also inked them.  All was attached to the tag and a bow was added.

Tim Holtz has a ton of videos out to teach this technique.  You can start here and look at the side bar for more videos.  Also, I love Wendy Vecchi's work too and you can see some videos here
