Baby Card

Sunday, June 27, 2010

I need another baby girl card.  I don't have many baby stamps, but I just love the Crafty Secrets Baby Girl Post Cards.  Instead of using the post card, I cut the image out of the post card kit using the Spellbinders Nesties.  The corners were punched with the Martha Stewart Embroidered Punch and the border was punched with the Martha Stewart Quilted Edger and Corner (started with a 5x5 piece of DP (designer paper) that I had in my stash. (punches shown below - don't you just love those punches??)

I made the flowers out of the Vellum and punches (shown below) and added a small Rose Kaiser Pearl in the center.  Be sure and see Selma's Tutorial on how to make the flowers.

I am in love with JustRites newest stamps (shown below) and the Congratulations was stamped from the All Occasions Set and cut with the tags die from Spellbinders.

This baby girl card called for a bow, and as much as I love using the silk ribbon I felt a small sheer bow trimmed in satin was best.

I used another image from the postcard kit and glued it inside of the card since I didn't have a large sentiment I wanted to use.

A close up view of the vellum flower.  These are just too fun to make.  I am so thankful Selma taught me how to make them at the workshop I had in May.  I tried another kind of flower and they just weren't dainty enough for this baby card.  I think these look nice, don't you?

Card for #3 Challenge

Thursday, June 24, 2010

I made this card for the #3 Challenge as I need 2 baby cards to use with gifts. A piece of floral DP and Lace Border were cut from October Afternoon's Thrift Shop Paper Pad.  I used the Martha Stewart Deco Fan Edger on the bottom of the lace paper and the Deco Fan Corner Punch on the corners of the DP.  I also punched the border again using the blue card stock to accent the lace DP. Those were attached together, adding a piece of Lace from May Arts.  Then I attached it to the blue cardstock.

The Sweet Baby postcard is from Crafty Secrets Baby Girl Postcard Kit.  I think it is the sweetest thing.
I distressed it around the edges and for some reason the camera really accented the distressing in the picture.  It is not near as dark IRL.  I added some Webster Pages buttons and made a small flower out of the same lace used on the card.  A Kaiser Pearl was added to the center.

News on Mom

First of all I have a big Praise!!!  We have POWER.  We had a horrible storm go through Friday night at 7:00 PM (80 to 100 mile an hour winds).  We have not had any electricity since then.  One never knows how many times you flip a light switch or turn on the water.  Fortunately, we have a generator and we were able to keep our freezers and refridgerators from thawing.  Jon wants a larger generator now, as he had to get up every 2 hours to fill it with gasoline.

My next huge Praise:
This is truly a God thing.
The rehab center has to release Mom this Wednesday (per Medicare).  We were bringing her to our house to live for now.  But, I knew she was not ready as it takes 2 or even 3 to help her get in and out of bed and to the bath room.  I tried to find a nurse to come in and help, but was not successful.  I was getting very nervous about the whole thing.  She begged me to go to a nursing home, but I just did NOT want to do that if I could possible take care of her.

I made a call to a friend who is the administrator of a nursing home on Thursday to see if she knew of any nurses that I might contact to do private care for Mom.  She said she used to, but they have all gotten old and did not do that anymore.
Then she mentioned to me that they have a great rehab facility attached to the nursing home. The rehab patients have their own dining room and their own “apartment”. And she can go there up to 120 days after she leaves the hospital rehab facility Medicare pays 100% for 20 days and then we would have to pay 20%. Pam said it is very, very nice and not like the nursing home at all. Excellent rehab too. I am going Monday afternoon to check it out, but I think that is what we will do. I talked with Mom last night and she was so happy about it.  I know she has been so scared to come home.  It is 8 miles from me. I hope I like it, but Pam assures me I will. I do trust Pam as she is a wonderful person and I have known her since she was a baby.  Mom would know lots of people and all her quilting gals live around that area.

This would be a true blessing and this would give her a chance to heal etc.
I know God guided me to call Pam.

He is so good....all the time!!!!

Vintage Card For This Week's Challenge

I can't get enough of Webster Pages Paper. It makes a card so easy to make and I love the vintage look it gives.

I started with a Neenah white card stock 6.5x5.5. After I trimmed the Webster DP down to 5.5 x 5 I cut a piece of Basic Grey Craft paper for a border. I trimmed the 6x6 paper to fit the cardstock.

A contrasting piece of the Webster Pages Paper (the brown check) was cut and again I use the BG Craft Paper for a border. (love that paper). After gluing it, I stitched along the edges and added a piece of lace, and a Webster Page Silhouette that had been antiqued.

The Lotus Pendant was used to cut out 2 more pieces of the Webster Pages Paper. I offset them a bit and popped them up with a Therm -O Web Dimensional.

I used my Copic Air Brush system to spray some vellum a light brown and then Martha Stewart's Punches were used to make the flowers. You can read Selma's Tutorial here on how to do the vellum flowers. They were easier for me this week and I liked how they turned out. What do you think???

The On Your Special Day sentiment from the new JustRite Birthday Sentiment Set was perfect for this card. I stamped it on the Basic Grey Craft Paper and cut it out using the Dahlia Spellbinders Die.

Cards and Sale

Sunday, June 13, 2010
I used a sheet from the new Basic Grey Manila paper Pad to stamp the sentiments.  I love the small scale of this paper for just this thing.  The Spellbinders Petite Oval and Scallop dies were used to cut the Oval and the Scallop.  I added a piece of Lace from May Arts, along with a Paper Rose and black silk ribbon for a contrasting color.  The card is a 6.5x5.5.

Same as above.

Sympathy Cards
This week we found out that 3 of our friends had a death in their family, so I made time to make cards to send to them.
All the papers are from the Webster Packs.  The sentiment is from JustRite's Thinking of a You set.
I had to try Selma's vellum flowers for the bottom card and I think they turned out pretty snazzy. What do you think?  You can read her tutorial here.

Scor Tape by Scor Pal

Scor-Tape is an amazing product. It is a premium double sided adhesive, best on the market, acid free, heat resistant and incredibly sticky tape. It can be used with embossing powders, foils, beads, glitter, ribbon etc. It is the perfect permanent adhesive for card making, boxes, books and Iris Folding. I have it available in sizes 1/8", 1/4", 1/2".
I used to use the Red tape and get frustrated every time I tried to use it. I have no trouble peeling the paper from this tape and you can tear it instead of  having to cut it.  It is a product I use all the time.
1/8 inch $ 3.50
1/4 inch $4.75
1/2 inch $6.95
plus shipping
Please e-mail  or call me at 574 656 3663 me if you would like to purchase the tape. Be sure to tell me which sizes you want to purchase and your mailing address.

Card for the Challenge

I started with a 6x5.5 card stock and the Lime Green and Pink paper is from Cosmo Crickets new DeLovely Paper Pad.  I think it is my favorite color this summer.

The Garden Trellis was punch on both sides of a strip of paper and then the stripes were cute our of the same paper pack, making sure I just used the colors for today's challenge.  I adhered it to the Garden Trellis border.

The flower image is from JustRite's My Garden Stamp set. It was stamped with Memento Black ink and colored with Copic Markers. Yellow Flower Soft was added to the middle (there is my yellow). A green Flourish by Inkadinkado was stamped on a circle that was cut and embossed with Spellbinders Large Classic Circle. I do not know the name of the stamp used for the sentiment.  The flower was cut out and popped up with Therm-O-Web DimensionalsGreen pearls were added along with a bow.

Rehab

Tuesday, June 1, 2010
I just wanted to  update you on Mom.  She was moved to an inpatient Rehab Facility yesterday and starts rehab this morning.  We are so thankful and cannot thank you all enough for your prayers and cards.

She has to be in rehab at least 3 hours a day which is going to be extremely hard on her at 95. They have suggested  that we don't come in to see her until after 3 P.M. as she is going to be very busy. This will give me a chance to get caught up a bit.  I hope to get a sale posted yet today.
Thanks again for you patience and understanding.  You all are the greatest!!!!!!
