Spring Flowers

Saturday, February 28, 2009

Sharon Johnson's Friday challenge is to make a card or project that will bring some signs of spring, new life, fresh air and warmer temps to those of us still cooped up inside. Be sure to jump on over to Sharon's site for a list of the other gals that are participating in this challenge.
You can also particpate and Sharon explains it at the beginning of the challenge,

When I think of spring, I think of birds chirping, flowers blooming and even a butterfly fluttering. This was the idea behind the creation of the card shown above.

I just received several new stamp sets from Inkadinkado (I will be featuring some on Monday)

and I loved the flowers, butterflies and branches. I thought they mixed and matched very well.

Do any of you remember when wearing Blue and Green together was a huge big NO NO? Or red and pink and stripes and plaids. Well something happened over the years, because those colors are beautiful together and I love mixing them. What do you think?

My little polka dotted butterfly is hard to see, but on the card it really is a nice finishing touch.

Stamps---------------Delicate Branches and Repositional Nature and Floral by Inkadinkado
Paper-----------------Kaiser Perriwinkle, Kaiser Sublime Vogue and Neenah white
Brads-----------------Kaiser Sublime
Punch-----------------Butterfly and Diamond Punch by Martha Stewart
Spellbinders-----------Oval and Oval Scalloped

More decorating pictures

BEFORE
AFTER
Mom had given Walt this clock and he wanted it on his fireplace. So, I used it as the focal which
was my starting point.
Notice the wall plug and a TV plug in the before picture. I couldn't believe the contractor
put it so high and totally in the way of any decorating. So, I had to hide it. I wanted to
use some small lamps but the cords stuck out and looked horrible. I changed things about
3 times because of the plugs. A very simple and uncluttered look which suits my brother!

Above the Sofa

BEFORE
AFTER
This picture is huge. It does not look like it here, but it is. The room has cathedral ceilings, so I had to use something massive. This picture was perfect. I found it at Kirkland's.

Walt's house

Wednesday, February 18, 2009

I told you I would be sharing some of my decorating pictures of my brother's new home.
I wanted to show you the outside setting to start with ,as it will give you some idea of the architecture on the inside of the home. Looking at the front, from left to right is the master bedroom, the entry, the dining room, and the garage. His home is in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas.

Front entry

The pictures are not the best because I didn't get to take them during the daylight hours.
This is the front entry. Walt had an extra sofa sitting there and I moved it to a guest room.
Please notice where the contractor put the light switch. Right in the middle of the wall! Very
frustrating for a decorator.

Finished Entry Way Wall

Keep in mind I had to work around the ceiling fan light switch. We found an Estate sale where I purchased this Thomasville Foyer table at a very good price. It looks like it just came off the show room floor and is perfect for Walt's entry way.

There is a very nice Shoppe called Annie's right out side the Village. She has the greatest table top items. I found just what I needed for this entry table.

I would have liked to put a mirror above this table, but Walt loved this picture and after all, it is his house. So I used his choice and not mine and it looks great. He didn't voice an opinion very often, so I tried to listen when he did. This picture is a metal world map and very pretty. Also, I had used a mirror with a hanging rack on the opposite wall, so this worked and looks great.

If I find just he right thing, I would add something under the light switch to fill in the bare area. Maybe I can do that on the next trip down to visit. What do you think??? I
More tomorrow!

I am in warm Arkansas!!

Sunday, February 8, 2009

I am not posting any sale items this week because I am visiting my brother, Walt in Arkansas and won't be back until next weekend. The weather is suppose to be 65 degrees!!!! YEA!!

My brother bought a new house in December and he wants me to come down and decorate it for him. I asked him for his budget and he said what ever I need to spend. Oh what fun I am going to have. Although I think he knows I am a pretty frugal person, so he has nothing to worry about.
He has furniture so I will just be accessorizing, which I dearly love doing. My 94 year old Mother is going with me. We are going to have one grand time. Hopefully, next Monday morning (16th) I will have my post ready for you all!

I am trying to finish up my Valentines Cards for my Great Grandchildren. I have one now for each adult and one for the kids in each family. I was hoping to get 11 made for them, but they are going to have to share this year.

I love my new Martha Stewart's diamond punch. I think it adds a lot to the interest of the card.
If you need to know any details on how I did this card (or any of the cards) please e-mail me.

Valentine Negative

This is another Valentine I made using the negative hole. It is hard to tell it, but the white small heart is actually the scalloped heart underneath on which I stamped the word Love.
I am not sure I like the bow on it. How about you? I might remove it before I send it to the Grand kids. What do you think??

Happy Valentine's Day

Friday, February 6, 2009

Sharon Johnson's challenge today is to use a negative image. When punching out a shape, the negative image is the sheet left over with the hole in it, rather than the object punched. Please read all about it over at Sharon's blog. Be sure to look at her card too. It is stunning!

After reading about the challenge for today, I turned to my Cuttlebug area and saw this "negative" image and decided to use it for one of my Great Grand children's valentine card. I thought it worked very well.

By the way, be sure to stop over to Jerri's blog and see her beautiful place card. She did a great tutorial telling us how she does her water coloring too, so be sure to scroll down to read it.

Happy Anniversary

Tuesday, February 3, 2009

Jon and I are celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary on Thursday, so I wanted to make him
a special card. We will spend the day together and then that night we are going to Lasalle Grill which is the nicest restaurant in town. Neither one of us have ever been there, but Jon thinks this is a big year for us and we are going to do something very special. He has already given me a new TV for my kitchen area, so the celebration has begun!

I went to Michael's the other night in hopes of finding Martha Stewart's heart punch, but of course they were out. I did buy this diamond punch with my 40% coupon. I really love her punches and I hope to get more as I go along.

I used the Spellbinders Labels 2 for this card and the Heart Nesties. I added a touch of bling. I think he will like it. what do you think?
