Corn for 2009

Tuesday, August 11, 2009

It is that time of year again in Indiana. The corn is ready and this year Jon was home on vacation to help. Mom and I decided that he might change his mind about retiring when he
sees all the work we do during canning season. He also snapped beans one night.

Mom will be 95 in December and I am so very thankful that she is still able to help me.
Corn is a lot of work, but like my Dad used to say "it sure beats eating a snowball in the winter".
We froze 28 quarts and we want to do at least that much more this year.
We also do tomatoes, beets, beans, apple sauce, peaches, corn relish, zucchini relish, sweet and sour cabbage pickles and jellies. I am so grateful that my Mom taught me how to preserve food for the winter.

How wonderful that you mom is still able to help!! I envy you!!! Wish my mom were still here to share in our garden harvest. Sounds like you will have a busy rest of the summer and fall!!

You Mom is 95? Wow, she looks wonderful! I love cream corn out of the garden. Our corn is just coming in because our ground stayed wet so long this year we got it out late but we were blessed with rain and for that I am grateful! We have been working canning tomatoes and stuff and I have been making Zucchini bread and it freezes great. Your corn looks great.

Oh, I am SO jealous! I love canning and freezing but just don't seem to have time for it anymore!

Your Mom looks fabulous for 95! Bless her heart! I see where you get your beautiful smile!

P.S. Hi Jon! Will you be glad to go back to work after all the work Joan is making you do?

That is so wonderful ....and encouraging...your Mom looks like she invented the word "busy". And certainly does not look her age. Love that Harvest card that you did at the UPM event.

I would've never guessed that your mom is 95; she looks MAHVELOUS, Joan! You be sure to tell her that, too. How cool that the two of you can still share this activity together. There's nothing like having your own preserves and canned goods. I wish I had the time to do it.
