Update on Melanie

I am thrilled to give you these reports for Friday! What an awesome day it has been!

Friday morning's report:
The neurosurgeon is very pleased with Melanie's reaction to being off the vent. The nurses, (with the aid of a lift) have her sitting in a chair for the first time. Jeni (her sister) and Andy (her Mom) tried telling them that Melanie is not a morning person under the best of situations........but what a sight! Continuing to make a step forward every day. Last night Melanie tried to untie Jeni's sweater (the ends knot in the front), so we are seeing new movements every day.

Friday Afternoon Report:
Melanie has graduated out of the ICU to the 7th floor Stroke Unit! PTL

Friday Evening Report:
**Boy....what a day! What a glorious day. Melanie has settled in the room # 738, (stroke unit). She was sitting in a chair most of the afternoon, and they have just put her to bed and have her settled in. She went right to sleep. **Tom was visiting her this afternoon, and as he left he flashed her the love you sign (thumb, index finger, and pinkie....Melanie does this to the children all the time)......MELANIE GAVE HIM THE LOVE YOU SIGN BACK! Tom cried. **Steph (Mel's friend) stopped by to visit. .......what a sweet visit she had with Melanie.....Andy said she loved hearing her talk to her. Mel gave Steph the "thumbs up" when she left.

Latest Report on Friday Evening:

As they were settling Melanie this afternoon, the nurse asked her if she had 3 children....she nodded yes. The nurse asked if they were all boys....she nodded no. They are doing speech, physical, and occupational therapy to see where she is at and what kind of therapy is needed.
They keep telling us how far she has to go......we see how far she has come.

We are thankful for the grace and strength of our Lord and Saviour who sustains us and for everyone who continues to care for Melanie and her family. You are all amazing! Thank you!

Joan this is marvelous news!! I am sure the entire family is elated! Clearly her comprehension is coming back. Sitting up will help prevent pneumonia and she certainly doesn't need another health issue to battle. I hope every update is as positive as this one!!
Tell her lots of people here are praying for her.
Barbara

What wonderful news. You had me in tears telling us about Melanie's I love you sign after Tom's. And then a thumbs up sign.

Tell Melanie she is doing great. She has a lot of people praying for her recovery. It may take some time, but she'll get there. She has 3 little ones waiting for their Mommy to come home.

What EXCITING News...I read your entries with such joy. I agree with you to view everything as the cup half full. Your positive attitude will be known to Melanie. I will not forget this beautiful family and will be so happy to report to my church this weekend. God has given you and yours a true miracle and He's not finished yet.

I am so happy for her, to be honest, I wasn't that hopeful. Do they know why she had this stroke? Was it an aneurysm that burst? That isn't uncommon during labour but hers happened later right? I'm an RN so I am really curious. I didn't want to ask right after it happened but now that she is doing better, I am dying to know!

Fantastic news! I've been keeping all of your family in prayers, just haven't taken the time to write as I know you are so busy.

Wonderful News! Miracles happen and are no less miracles when they require work and effort over time to see their completion. And it is indeed the small signs, gestures, nods and all the intimate little details barely noticed at other times that can mean the most on that road to recovery. I might add that for someone who is “not” a morning person hospitals can sometimes be a pain but it sounds like Mel is trooping along anyway (and yes that’s speaking from experience with hospital mornings :D).

Thank you so much for taking the time to keep your cyber friends in the loop and know that prayers are still storming Heaven’s Gates for this lovely wife and mom. May this Mother’s Day bring new joys for the entire family (and you too).

Hugs and blessings - Jean

Praise God! What a joy to read the update, Joan. Thanks so much for sharing these updates. So many are imploring the Lord to heal her and restore her to her family...for His glory! I'm sure that getting Melanie up and moving her is important to her recovery, and it's certainly an encouragement to her family. It would be so nice to be able to send cards to Melanie and her family. We would love an address, even if you can forward them to her and them. Thanks again, Joan! Hugs, Cheryl

I am in tears reading your post. You see, my daughter - at age 3 - had a massive stroke during heart surgery and then hemorrhaged for 4 days. She was not expected to survive - but she did! Then, after she was able to have the breathing tube out (10 days later) she was blind and paralyzed... and couldn't speak... she also had a blood infection and was having seizures, etc. She wasn't expected to regain her eyesight - but she did. She wasn't expected to walk again - but she did! AND... she talks non-stop! Of course it took many tears, prayers and hard work - but the Lord blessed us in so many ways. My daughter is about to turn 21 yrs old. Something nobody ever expected! Yes... the Lord sees our needs and blesses us in unimaginable ways.

I continue to check your blog for updates on Melanie and pray that she will regain all that she lost and will be able to care for and love her family again.

ps
I'm sending you an email with an order! ((hugs))
