Sedium

Wednesday, May 27, 2009

This is one of my favorite plants. It is a variegated (yellow and green) sedum.
It grows any where...sun or shade. You can cut off the tops and stick it in the grown and it grows. If a solid green shoot comes up in it, you must pull it out or it will all go back to the wild.
I love to stick it among my other shade plants because it adds a lot of color. Usually about the 1st of June, I start pinching back the top of it so it doesn't get too big and fall over. At times, I have taken those pieces I pinched back, stuck them in the ground and they grow. A great plant for any level of gardener.

Is this plant a succulent with kind of heavy leaves. It looks like a plant my mom had many years ago in our rock garden. Brings back many memories.

Joan - my sedum blooms in the fall. Gets lavender/purple flowers. Doesn't yours bloom at all?

Sandee, yes it has heavy leaves and I would consider it a succulent plant.

Jill, thanks for reminding me...this sedum does bloom in the fall, but the blooms are green and not pretty. I forgot about that because I really don't care for this bloom.

I love the sedum you have too and you are right it has very pretty flowers. I used to have one like you have, but lost it when we put in the pond.

Thanks for reminding me. I edited my text to make it correct.

Your chives & sedum look fantastic! I don't have chives any more, need to get some started ... I agree it blooms so pretty and I of course LOVE the purples!! The sedum I can take or leave ... I like it this time of the year but not so much at the end of the year ... you can only make so many dried arrangements, LOL!! I should sell it to my local florist ...
Thanks for sharing Joan!!

Thanks Joan for sharing your garden with us. Here in the deserts of Arizona, we don't get to enjoy much green. Out of 40 hibiscus planted 12 yrs. ago, I have one left! You have to be extremely conscientious to garden here.
